Manitoban country artist Kayla Luky performed an intimate show for people in Portage la Prairie last night.

The Grandview singer was in town as part of the Concerts in the Park series and says she never knew a beautiful place like Island Park was here in Portage la Prairie.

"I actually never knew there was a body of water in Portage la Prairie, so first of all I was totally surprised that this park and infrastructure existed," says Luky. "Also it's Thursday night and I know everyone is busy with camping and summer things, but it was really nice to see so many people out enjoying themselves."

Luky played some songs off her new album 'Back to Dirt' which has a Portage la Prairie connection.

"That album was produced by Murray Pulver who's actually from Portage la Prairie, so he's a pretty well-known name. It's alternative country music, folksy, rootsy, Americana and Canadiana. It's fun music," She laughs.

She'll be performing in the Brandon Folk, Music & Art Festival July 22nd to 24th.
