The Portage Kennel Club's annual dog shows took place this weekend.

Portage Kennel Club Show Secretary Tammy Dunbar explains they hold the annual event on the first weekend of July each year, and with three or four shows each weekend, Sunday marked their 131st show. She says this weekend's shows went really well.

"The exhibitors have been great, some beautiful dogs, some well-working dogs, so I think everybody has enjoyed it. We had some special activities [Saturday] for Canada's 150th and everybody seemed to enjoy themselves."

Kyla Brewster and IzzyKyla Brewster competed in the Junior Handling Intermediate-Novice category with Izzy, her miniature poodle. She says while she didn't win anything she still had fun. Brewster explains she just began participating in dog shows last year and enjoys being a part of them.

Competitors in this weekend's dog shows came from across the province as well as from western Canada and Ontario, and some people even came up from the States for the event.

This weekend's dog shows included all-breed championship dog shows, obedience trials, as well as diverse specialty shows and more.
