The Portage Rotary Club is diving into a new long-term international project. Portage Rotary Club Foundation Director Doug Pedden gives details on the project.

" We are kind of changing focus next year. We have applied with the Winnipeg Rotary Club and a few others Rotary Clubs for a new project called the Dadaab Refugee
Camp in Kenya. It's basically building schools there. The Rotary Club of Winnipeg is fronting it or starting it and we are partnering with them. We have committed $12,000 dollars to the project."

Pedden explains they will be in contact with Rotarians in Kenya to take part building the school.

"Any time Rotary does an international project we have to find a club in that sponsoring country that will manage it at that end for us. That's one of the great things about the governance part of Rotary. We can actually have other Rotarians in that country being responsible for making sure it get's done properly."

He notes they have no time frame on the project, adding international projects can take anywhere from 3 to 5 years.
