Hundreds of people invaded the community of Arborg for the Western Canadian Junior B Hockey Championship, or Keystone Cup yesterday.

The Arborg Ice Dawgs are the host team. They fell to Peguis in the Keystone Junior Hockey League Championship so both teams advanced to the tournament.

"It's been pretty exciting that's for sure," says Randy Sigurdson, Mayor of Arborg. "When you get an influx of this many people and they all have to eat, and they have to buy gas, and many other types of things so it's a great event for the businesses and a great event for the town."

The Ice Dawgs opened the tournament a 9 yesterday morning and volunteers have been working round the clock to keep the event running smoothly.

"It's a wonderful event and a lot of people are coming into the community, and so far it's been a great start to the tournament," says Cindy Stansell, CAO of the municipality. "I've seen a lot of people stepping up to volunteer so I though I would lend a hand and it has been a lot of fun."

"The work that's gone into this to make it happen is really something that really has to be talked about because there are volunteers that have been working on this for months," adds Sigurdson. "They've been putting finishing touches on the dressing rooms, and the fine details that go in like advertising, the programs, and all the little things that no one thinks about. So community support and volunteers are huge for this type of thing."

The tournament wraps up Sunday with the championship game being followed by the closing ceremonies.
