The Portage la Prairie and District Chamber of Commerce is giving you a bit of extra time to show your appreciation for someone working to make the region a better place. The nominations for their best business awards and community volunteer awards were supposed to be in by last Friday, but Executive Director Cindy McDonald says they've decided to extend the deadline to help collect some additional applications.

"Nominations have gone really well, but we could always use more in every category. The more the better. It has gone really well this year and we're happy with the outcome. I gave a little bit of extra time so it's Friday, October 7th at 4:30. If you were thinking about it and ran out of time, you have a couple more days left still."

The awards will be presented during the annual Best Business Awards Ceremony on November 24th. McDonald says the annual gala aims to celebrate Portage la Prairie's business community, while also recognizing the volunteers that help make the city a great place. McDonald says they're hoping to see a few last minute nominations come in, noting they're also able to provide some assistance if you've never nominated someone before.

"They just need to look over the criteria, all the nomination forms are on our website. If they have any questions they can give us a call and I can help them through it."

A total of ten awards, six business and 4 volunteer, will be handed out at the November 24th ceremony.
