Children are being asked to help set up lemonade stands around Portage la Prairie to help make a difference throughout June to raise money for pediatrics at the Portage District General Hospital. Foundation executive director Erin Miller calls it Lemons for Love.

"This is our first time we've done this," says Miller. "We plan on encouraging kids this year, and maybe trying to do a town-wide program of lemonade stands for next year ... We've had quite a few kids interested in the idea of having a lemonade stand in support of the Portage Hospital Foundation."

Miller explains it's a means to get kids involved in philanthropy, noting kids enjoy having lemonade stands, anyway, and adults don't mind buying a refreshment. She adds most stands will be set up in the children's own yards, one's being set up at Portage Mutual, another at the car wash on Saskatchewan Avenue, totaling about 20 kids so far.

You'll recognize the effort by foundation stickers and trademark jars for money.
