The Portage Regional Library held a series of workshops entitled Get Growing on Tuesday for those who have or would like to have a green thumb. Landscape and floral designer Valerie Proctor held a session on floral arrangements,

Valerie Proctor leading session on flower arranging (photo submitted by Brent Hoar)"The library invited me to do a floral arranging class for their Get Growing Day," says Proctor. "So, I came down and we had six ladies registered, and we all made a spring centrepiece."

Proctor says it was a beginners class, building from the basics with greenery and then greening-up the arrangements. She adds then they added flowers, spoke about focal and filler flowers, shaping, and designing. Proctor adds they can take that information and develop their skills from there.

Then there was "Whimsy in the Garden" with Liebzeit, followed by "Square Foot Gardening" with Certified Square Foot Gardener and Master Gardener and Composter, Mick Manfield.
