Lighthouse Christian School in Southport held it's Award Ceremony Monday night. Principal Darlene Long says this year's evening had some additional presentations not formerly made in previous years.

Darlene Long principal"We've just had our awards ceremony for Lighthouse Christian School students finishing off another year," says Long. "They all received their awards for the highest averages in the different subjects, including character awards based on scriptural virtues. We also had a barbecue and a great fun night. The Candice Bergen Award; this is our first year for that. It's very exciting for our student to receive that. And the graduates received a letter of best wishes from Portage MLA Ian Wishart."

She notes it's one of the biggest awards ceremonies the school's held with the increase in numbers in the school over the past year. She says it's a big event for the school and exciting to finish the year off on that note, and looking forward to the summer, of course, as well.

Emily WaldnerEmily Waldner was one of three graduates and won the Candice Bergen Award. She explains it's in recognition of commitment to family, friends and the community, showing good character and integrity, and strong leadership through quiet confidence and character. Waldner adds her family really does mean everything to her. She says she plans to take a year off then go to college to be a paramedic.

Four Kindergarten students also graduated into Grade One.
