People at Long Plain First Nation are hoping for the best, as one of their own recovers from a stroke. Renowned award-winning filmmaker and indigenous advocate Lisa Meeches suffered a stroke last weekend and began her recovery in Alberta. She returned to Winnipeg on Saturday. Long Plain Chief Dennis Meeches says they've been keeping tabs on her status through social media, and hear it's going to be a long recovery process. He says she's played a significant role in bringing First Nations people to the forefront and hopes her recovery goes well.

"For the Long Plain people, she's our most famous citizen. She's a great role model, a trailblazer, and a dynamic person. We're so proud of her, and the work she's done throughout the years. We're praying and hoping she'll have a full recovery."

Lisa Meeches is also the founder of Eagle Vision, which was involved in the production of award-winning films such as Capote, which took an Oscar, and Elijah Harper's biopic titled 'Elijah' which took a Gemini Award. Dennis Meeches says they were shocked by the news, and says it's likely something felt across the country.

"The community is just kind of in a state of shock and saddened by what had happened. Everyone in Long Plain, and I imagine right across the country, are concerned for her well-being, and hope she makes a full recovery."
