The folks at Mayfair Farms have some tips for keeping your live Christmas tree green and healthy. Mike Giffin lists a few.

"We like to cut a little bit off the bottom so it soaks up water better, and it's best to keep it away from any heat registers to keep it from drying out. Other than that you should have a good season with three weeks of fresh trees," Giffin says. "That's what I would consider. They last for if you take care of them."

He says there's an easy way to keep the house clean too.

"It's probably a good idea to put a tree bag down which contains the mess. Then when you're done with the tree at the end of the season you can just scoop it up and put everything out the door all at once."

Giffin adds it's never okay to have an open flame on, or around, any Christmas tree.
