The mild winter has Central Plains farmers facing a few tough choices heading into the spring over what to do next. Some are contemplating an early start but are a bit hesitant about what could go wrong if Mother Nature pulls a fast one and reverts back to winter.

Area farmer Lorne Henry says those that do go out earlier than normal, will still need more moisture, as the fields are pretty dry and that could leave some in trouble. Henry says most producers will likely be cautious as starting off dry is a mixed bag of possibilities. With an early spring they could get to work on seeding varieties of crops that are much more frost resistant.

He says the quick melt has many feeling as though we skipped March and April and jumped right into May and you certainly won't find too many people complaining about that.
