"We initiated eight new members."

That's from Royal Canadian Branch 65 Legion president Bob Oldford, reflecting on the Legion's Annual General Meeting (AGM) this week in Portage la Prairie.

AGMs look ahead to future plans as well as look back in the previous year. Among efforts to come, Oldford says, "September is when our Legion Week takes place. So, we are looking for committee members to help us with the planning of that. It runs from September 16 through to the 23, which is the Saturday. There will be a lot of events involved in that. We'll have more to announce on that in the future."

He adds last year saw new executive member elections, plans to re-do their roof, as well as an increase in fundraising efforts for the new roof.

"We've had people attend the national convention and also the provincial convention," he also notes. Financially speaking, Oldford notes, their last year was average.
