Portage's Kara-Jean Miller's raised $20,000 for Special Olympics through Polar Plunges across Manitoba.

Miller's most recent plunge was the Ultimate Polar Plunge in Churchill, and she talks about what it was like when she got to Hudson Bay.

"Well, reality finally hit in when I saw the icebergs floating in the water. It wasn't actually that cold as I thought it would be. The coldest one I did do was back in January when it was minus 50, so this one was easy-peasy."

Miller's raised quite a bit of money for Special Olympics, and explains how.

"The $4,300 was pretty much the whole Polar Plunges out of this whole year. I'm thinking out of all the Polar Plunges I'm almost at $20,000 for Special Olympics. It just shows how much support that the town has for all special needs people. That they'll always be there for them when they need the help, and I'd just like to say thank you to everybody for all the support they've given me."

Miller says it was a pretty popular event.

"There was the whole town of Churchill, plus 63 other Polar Plungers. From the farthest that I know that came, there were plungers that came from Wisconsin, a full family of them."

She adds all of the donations show just how much people in our community care about helping Special Olympians, and she plans to continue as long as she can.
