The Portage Plains United Way received $500 from the Portage Credit Union and the Austin Credit Union. United Way executive director Mandy Dubois explains how it happened.

"Portage Plains United Way received $500 from the Portage Chamber Golf Tournament, which was sponsored by Portage and Austin Credit Unions."

She notes a draw was randomly made for a $1,000 prize to be split with the winning team and the charity of that team's choice.

"But the funny part is that it was actually my golf team that won the prize. So, the team got to keep $500 cash, and give $500 away to a charity. And since it was my golf team, we gave it away to the United Way for obvious reasons."

Credit Union CEO Dave Omichinski notes it all worked out great.

"It's perfect this time of year to give the funds to the United Way. they're right in their launch and major fundraising this time of year. The United Way, in terms of the many member agencies, is one of the best places to donate funds to. All of the organizations do great work in the community."
