Today is Louis Riel Day and Portage Regional Recreation Authority General Manger David Sattler says there will be plenty of activities in honour of the occasion going on at Stride Place in Portage la Prairie.

Sattler explains they'll be partnering with the Manitoba Metis Federation and the Portage Friendship Centre to put on some events in the Portage Mutual Arena.

"We've got some Metis music, the Prairie Steppers will be performing here once again, we have different types of workshops, Metis story-telling, snowshoeing, hopefully there's snow, and then we're going to do some cooking of bannock over an open fire and possibly some horse-drawn sleigh rides."

He notes the PRRA will also be putting on a free public skate and the Portage Terriers will take to the ice at 4:30 for their annual Louis Riel Day hockey game against the Virden Oil Caps.
