It took years of work to get there, but last Saturday afternoon saw the official opening of the town of Lundar's new arena.

It's been in use for several months, but that didn't keep a large crowd from being part of the ceremony.

That support put a smile on Grant Sigfusson's face. He's the president of the Grettir sports body.

"It's just huge," he says, "We said it's going to be a multi-use facility, for all age groups, and just the presence of everybody who was here, shows that it is."

His father Brian's the RM of Coldwell reeve, who says the support's wonderful.

"I can't help but feel real proud of all the people, and everybody that supported it," he says, "It just makes this a wonderful day and occasion for our people, and the surrounding area."

Interlake MLA Derek Johnson calls it amazing.

"All the health benefits it'll have over the years," he stresses, "It's something that's going to be used by, not just the youth, playing hockey, but our seniors exercising."

The ribbon cutting was also joined by provincial Minister of Municipal Relations Jeff Wharton, who describes it as a fabulous facility.

"I said to my wife we better take some pictures, and show our folks in Gimli, what they're doing in Lundar," he says, "Because this is just unbelievable. We're so pleased that our investment paid dividends, big time."

There was also a hockey game between the Winnipeg Jets alumni, and Lundar Falcons alumni.
