In the midst of the wildfires in Fort McMurry, Alberta, a Lundar family is doing all they can to help. Nicole Halldarson explains how their plan for a supply drive began.

"We were watching the news and my daughter Harley had happened to ask a few questions about it. She went to her bedroom and started going through some of her stuff and she decided she would like to donate a whole bunch of prizes she had won that are still brand new and a whole bunch of clothes to kids who have lost everything. So we got to talking and that's where it started."

Halldarson notes the drive has been more successful than she ever imagined.

"Within 48 hours we have expanded to Eriksdal, Ashern and I have also been getting calls from people south of Winnipeg with bins full of clothing and everything they can give. We are arranging pick-ups with locations further away. It's been going great. I've even been getting some cash donations. "

She notes they hope to get the supplies to Alberta as soon as possible.

"So far we have one volunteer who is leaving this coming week. I also have my boyfriend who is arranging for other trucks to be sent up and we hope to have another truck by the end of next week going up. By the looks of everything coming in I think it might be looking to be almost a semi load. "

Halldarson notes there are a variety of places within Lundar that have drop-off bins for donations, adding they can arrange pick-ups if you wish to donate, but are further away.
