A North Dakota man was issued a hefty fine by Treherne RCMP after being clocked driving more than 75 km/h over the posted speed limit in the RM of Victoria.

RCMP Const. Sean O'Keefe says a vehicle was observed driving 175 km/h in a 100 km/h zone on Highway 2 earlier this week. When asked why he was driving that fast, being from south of the border, the 24-year-old male driver said he thought the posted limits were in miles per hour.

"Unfortunately, ignorance is not an excuse where speed is concerned," O'Keefe says.

The driver was issued a fine of $1,032.
