Portage la Prairie RCMP responded to an aggravated assault inside the city last night.

A single victim was attacked with a machete Thursday evening around 8:47 p.m. Police learned that the victim was assaulted at a residence on Alfred Avenue, where investigators determined that 33-year-old Grant Miles Kirby was the assailant in the matter. The victim is currently in stable condition after being treated for their wounds.

Kirby is currently at large on charges of aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and failing to comply with a probation order. Kirby is described as an Indigenous male with a medium build, standing 5’6” tall, weighing approximately 200 lbs. He has brown eyes and brown hair, which is usually shaved short. Kirby has multiple tattoos on his body, including several across his face and neck. Kirby is known to be a member of the Crazy Indian Nomads street gang. He is known to wear a black and white biker styled vest. Kirby should be considered armed and potentially dangerous, and should not be approached by any member of the public.

Investigators believe that this is an isolated incident, but are asking that the public be aware of any gang-related activity in their neighbourhoods. Police encourage anyone with knowledge of Kirby's current whereabouts to contact the Portage la Prairie RCMP Detachment or your local detachment.
