Manitoba and Saskatchewan have signed a five-year extension to their Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) which will respect water management between the two provinces.

Manitoba Agriculture and Resource Development Minister Ralph Eichler and Saskatchewan Minister Responsible for Water Security Agency Fred Bradshaw made the announcement which will continue the usage of transboundary watersheds between the provinces. Drainage from these sheds could impact the amount of water we could receive, as well as the quality of it.

"We recognize the tremendous progress made in the last five years with Saskatchewan to improve water management across our shared watersheds," says Eichler. "Renewing our partnership will help both jurisdictions continue to focus on today’s issues like flooding, drought and drainage while providing a strong framework to meet new challenges."

The two governments began the MOU in 2015 which paved the way for cooperative efforts to mitigate flooding, drought, and to improve the water quality throughout the provinces.

"Saskatchewan looks forward to continue working with Manitoba as part of this important partnership," said Bradshaw. "We feel this approach will identify and tackle issues that are important to landowners, communities and our respective governments."
