The Manitoba Auctioneers Association's annual general meeting took place yesterday at the Canad Inns in Portage la Prairie.

President Wayne Kauenhofen explains the goal of the meeting was to gain more knowledge about what's going on in the world, talk and share ideas with fellow auctioneers from across the province, and have a good time. He adds they had a couple of guest speakers at the meeting who spoke about technology and agriculture.

"We learned a little bit about the technology world and how that will benefit the auction business. Then we had a lady come in and talk about Agriculture in the Classroom, how they grow stuff on the field and how that affects you as a human-being."

He notes it was all really interesting, adding Agriculture in the Classroom is a big thing around here and the Manitoba Auctioneers Association is proud to be a part of it.

The meeting wrapped up with a public auction in the evening, from which a portion of the proceeds went to Central Plains Cancer Services. Kauenhofen adds they've been making donations to Central Plains Cancer Services nearly every year since 1999, noting it's a big deal for their association. The cheque was presented at the end of the auction.
