The first annual Manitoba Country Voice amateur talent show has named its finalists.

Jennifer Rey, Calvin Turko, Jessica Lukin, Krista Rey, Brittany Thomson, Tessa Lavallee, James Patterson, Jordan Aymont, Josie Byers and Travis Rintoul will compete for their shot at cash prizes at the William Glesby Centre in Portage la Prairie March 25.

The 10 finalists were selected based on video auditions screened by Manitoba Country Voice organizers.

"It's been quite a bit of work, but very enjoyable work," says event coordinator Charlie Brennan. "It was tough for us, cause some of the (applicants) were so close. Everyone is so good that sent in videos and it was tough to narrow it down."

"And it's going to be even tougher for the judges."

Similar to popular television shows like American Idol or The Voice, performers will be graded by a three-person panel of judges: Doc Walker's Chris Thorsteinson and Dave Wayliw, and singer and recording artist Kimberley Dawn.

"They all said they'd love to do it because they're all for supporting local talent and giving people a chance to get some exposure and show crowds what they can do," Brennan says. "It will be a fun filled evening of great entertainment."
