The RM of Grahamdale's dealing with some moisture issues.

Reeve Clifford Halaburda says it's been raining for the last two-and-a-half weeks, and it's causing a lot of problems for farmers. "They can't get into the field to harvest their crops, cattle farmers are having a hard time getting their feed off. It's just being hard times for everyone within this Interlake system, and areas were getting rain anywhere from 8-to-9 inches to 18 inches in different areas."

He says they've received anywhere from 8 inches of rain to almost 18 inches in some areas, and explains what they're doing to try and get some of that water moving.

"We've been cleaning out some of our main drains -- getting the trash out of them, the bulrushes and willows -- to make our main drains clear. Other drains that need cleaning we're working on that, and our drainage program is not completed for the year so hopefully we can do enough to sort of mitigate the whole system, if it's going to work that way. It depends on the weather system."

He says their system isn't prepared for the amounts of water the received.

"Our draining system, or ditches and drain ditches, are only designed for a 2-inch rain event. Our river system is not set up for 6 or 8 inches, and this is why it makes it miserable because it takes so long for the water to get away. Hopefully, if it ever stops raining, the water is going to recede and hopefully some work can be done yet before freeze up. Providing we don't get any snow."

He's hopeful the rain will let up before things start to freeze, so the water can get out of the area.
