With U.S. president Donald Trump now sworn in office, Canadian politicians are providing their perspectives of how our two nations will fare together in the future.

Candice Bergen, Portage Lisgar MP, says, "The (inaugural) speech (of Donald Trump) was certainly a message to the American people that President Trump will be putting the interests of Americans, American jobs, and the American economy front and centre in terms of his policy and what he's doing. I heard no surprise at all in the speech. I think that was the platform for his campaign, and certainly why he was able to galvanize so much support from the working class."

She notes a Canadian perspective gives her concern for some exporting sectors in our nation due to Trump's overt protectionism of America's own best interests. Bergen adds policies we used to utilize will no longer be effective, and Canada is going to have to become far more competitive with the U.S. in what products both nations provide if we're going to continue to export to that nation in the future.
