The MP for Dauphin-Swan River-Neepawa's upset about roadblocks to the construction of oil pipelines across Canada.

Robert Sopuck notes the prime minister approved two of three proposals, with the Northern Gateway line deemed environmentally unsound. Sopuck's upset by that decision  for a couple of reasons.

"Each one of these pipelines would, and will, create thousands of high paying jobs in Canada. One of my earliest jobs in my career was to do pipeline assessments in the McKenzie Valley. Working with engineers and pipeline companies, and doing environmental assessments myself, pipelines were not only safe back then, they're even more safe now, in terms of how they're engineered and structured, to ensure there's no damage to the environment."

Sopuck's also unhappy mayors from the lower mainland of British Columbia are blocking pipeline construction, which he calls offensive.

"Basically is what they're telling other regions of Canada is 'We as mayors in British Columbia are not going to allow you, our fellow Canadians, to export your resources through the only port that you have, just because we don't like what you do. As this sense starts to penetrate the country, I think this has the potential for some serious national unity issues."

Sopuck adds with about 25,000 of pipelines across North America, spills are very rare.
