A quarterly report from Manitoba Public Insurance shows a decrease being sought in its overall rates.

Spokesperson Brian Smiley shares their financial increase that goes along with this good news.

"A net income of $110 million dollars for the first three quarters is absolutely very promising, for not only our customers but also the Corporation as a whole," says Smiley. "Your listeners will remember that there was a rebate provided to them in the amount of $110 million dollars. So, in actuality, there was no increase overall. However, this is good news as we head into our second, third and fourth quarters."

Smiley outlines their reports of fewer collisions.

"We reported 21 per cent fewer collisions this year, and that's largely due to the lower frequency of auto collisions," adds Smiley. "Obviously, we attribute that to lower vehicle volumes on our highways due to the COVID pandemic. Many people are not going to work. They are working from home, fortunately. We also know that many people are doing less travel now due to COVID. So, that has resulted in fewer collisions. However, on the other side of it, we have seen an increase in both fatal injuries and serious injuries. So, that is certainly concerning."
