The Portage la Prairie Regional Library welcomed Elizabeth Murray of Winnipeg to do a reading of her very first novel. Murray says her novel "Holding On To Mamie" is a very personal story.

Elizabeth Murray"My book is about my mother's battle with dementia and the impact it had on our relationship. As she declined, she wrote notes to help her understand what was going on in her life. And I used the notes in the book as a parallel narrative. So, you get her perspective as well as mine."

Murray says she really enjoyed the writing process.

"I really enjoy telling this story, because I've really come to believe that it's so important. Dementia is a growing issue. It's something that needs to be addressed. And think that raising awareness will help to reduce the stigma that's associated with dementia."

Murray notes you can find her book information at holding on to mamie.ca or at McNally Robinson's Book Sellers in Winnipeg.
