Wednesday October 5th was a special day at the Commonwealth Air Training Plan Museum outside of Brandon.

The Honourable Janice C. Filmon, Lieutenant Governor of Manitoba laid a wreath at the Commonwealth Air Training Plan Museum.

2016 is the 75th anniversary of the formation of the Women’s Division of the RCAF. The RCAF was the first of the armed services to invite women into their ranks and not just as an auxiliary but as a division of their own. The Museum paid tribute to the 31 RCAF Women’s Division Personnel who died during the Second World War and are listed on the Museum's Monument.

“I like to come out to Brandon and Western Manitoba and for such a special occasion is even better. The 75th anniversary is important marking the entrance of women into the service and secondly remembering those 31 women who died during the second world war” said Lieutenant-Governor Janice Filmon.

Brigadier General Kenny of RCAF 1 Canadian Air Division also participated in Wednesday's program. “We are always looking for opportunities to recognize those people who have served and those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Marking the 75th anniversary is something we want to be promoting and I'm thrilled to be here today.”

2016 is also the 75th anniversary of the official opening of Service Flying Training School #12 where the Museum is now housed and this is the year the RCAF has chosen to commemorate the Commonwealth Air Training Plan.

96 year old Marion Reid was in the Women's division of the RCAF and she was posted at the Training School #12.

“I look back at my years at this facility with lots of fond memories and it is something I wouldn't trade for the world.
