The incoming superintendent of the Pine Creek School Division (PCSD) looks forward to taking on his new role.

Bruce Lyons will take over as the new superintendent of PCSD effective July 1, 2017, replacing the retiring Brian Gouriluk. Lyons has more than 36 years of experience in education, having working as a teacher in Turtle Mountain School Division, served as principal in Sioux Valley First Nations, Holmfield Colony School and Minto School, and recently as a consultant in the Department of Education.

"Being a superintendent of a school division is something I've aspired to for sometime now," Lyons says. "I would probably consider that the pinnacle of the career of an educator."

When it comes to educational philosophy, Lyons believes student success in all aspects of life is enhanced through the development of social and emotional skill sets, according to a PCSD release.

“His commitment to that belief has led him to become certified as an Affiliate National Trainer of the Lions Quest program, where he has conducted certification workshops for hundreds of teachers from all over the province, focusing on service learning,” the division release explains. “Mr. Lyons is well-versed in the importance of technology throughout Education and looks forward to continuing with the
Pine Creek School Division in these areas.”

Lyons says he looks forward to immersing himself in the division and getting to know all of the different schools and programs.

“They've got some real interesting things going on that I'm really looking forward to getting into,” Lyons says. “And I'm interested to take a look at all the small schools ... and I'm really looking forward to working with our First Nations neighbours to help our kids out in all areas.”

Lyons will begin his role with PCSD May 1, when he'll begin working with retiring superintendent Brian Gouriluk.
