The new Sexual Violence Safety policy will be constant throughout Red River Campuses across the Province. That's from Director of Student Support Services Dave Rogalsky in response to the latest legislation from the Progressive Conservatives. He explains some of the details

"Whatever policies and procedures we develop at the Winnipeg-based campuses will also apply to any regional campus. So it will be consistent across the Red River campuses across the province. The objective of the legislation as I understand it is to raise awareness of sexual violence, to address some of the issues with respect to consent, engaging in sexual activities, it addresses training on the issues of sexual violence and establishes protocols and procedures. We'll be looking forward to building on the good work already done, and further identify best practices and develop both policy and procedural guidelines for which we can follow."

He says it won't be too big of a job because they won't be starting from scratch.

"We have policies on violence prevention, and a policy on student rights and responsibilities and both of them references a safe and respectful environment. We have a policy on student discipline which references a zero tolerance for violent or threatening behavior. Finally, we have one more policy on discrimination and harassment, and in this case, includes sexual harassment."

He adds the students will be the first to know if and when changes are being made, and where services -- if needed -- can be reached.

"One requirement of legislation is there will be broadband communication. I anticipate we'll be reaching out to all the stakeholders, and the important one is the students, so we'll have focus groups or other ways provide input and give ideas on how to go forward.
