The RM of Rockwood recently purchased some new equipment for their Public Works and Utilities departments. Reeve Jim Campbell says they bought two half-ton trucks to replace worn-out vehicles, noting they've also purchased a new tandem because their old one was starting to cost the municipality approximately fifteen to twenty thousand dollars each year in repairs. Campbell says their half-tons get a lot of wear and tear because the RM of Rockwood is thirty miles long and fifteen miles wide. He notes although most of the work in the municipality is done with private contractors and semis, there are a substantial number of smaller jobs where their own employees need to use the tandem. Campbell adds the half-tons usually last them a good ten years, while the tandem trucks can last as long as fifteen years.
