A new washroom will be up and running at Delta Beach next summer.

RM of Portage la Prairie Council awarded the contract for the project to NDC Construction at a price of $362,000. Reeve Kam Blight says they're redeveloping the campground with seasonal camp sites that are fully serviced, and with that, they'll need to replace the bathrooms that were damaged by the flood.

"A committee was struck to look at the best options for the bathrooms and they brought forward a facility that will meet the codes and standards of provincial regulations, but also withstand the elements and any actions that take place," says Blight. "The cost was quite high, that was the biggest discussion at the table. It ended up voting 6-2 to go forward with the proposal valued at $362,000."

Blight has a hard time justifying $362,000 on a washroom but says with all the regulations and codes that must be met, the costs really add up.

"The committee did a good job of pulling out information from all the tenders, and this one was the most price competitive. So they did a good job in that regard and Council thought it was the direction we need to go, and I respect their decision."

He adds they'll continue to try and fight for some Disaster Financial Assistance funding from the province but he's not counting on their support. You can read all about the project here, and see blueprints for the washroom here.
