The Municipality of Norfolk Treherne's had some major changes in its government in 2018. Will Eert was elected as Reeve in the fall, and outlines some of the challenges.

"More than me getting elected, we had one former councillor not run, but we elected three other councillors," explains Eert. "So, we are a very new council. We've got four new councillors and a new reeve. So, five out of the seven of us are new. That's impacting on what we can do."

He says issues arose for which they couldn't form a decision and had to look back and learn from the past. Eert notes this helps them learn what decisions were made and move forward from that basis. He says challenges he personally faced include lack of previous experience on council and politics. Eert notes he's got a strong belief that councillors have to make decisions for the good of the municipality, and should be encouraged to debate. He adds his struggle is how to work with them in order to to result in good decisions.
