The Municipality of North Norfolk's upgrading some lighting at their landfill facility this spring. Mayor Neil Christoffersen says they're taking advantage of a provincial program.

"Manitoba Hydro is offering incentives to upgrade your lighting to use less electricity," notes Christoffersen. "In some cases, we're upgrading the fluorescent bulbs to T8 in some of the heated areas."

He says the cold storage facility was transformed into various recycling quarters rendering old lighting insufficient for the new efforts. Christoffersen explains the upgrades will make it safer to work. He adds old outside lighting is being replaced with LEDs, and while the cost is significant Christoffersen notes the investment will soon pay for itself due to the longevity of the new bulbs. Cost for the new lighting after Manitoba Hydro's rebate will be about $5000. Christoffersen adds it's money well spent.
