A new fund was created through the Community Foundation of Portage and District today.

We're going to join the CFPD," says Oakville Cemetery President Stan Wojtowicz. "There was a fund contributed today, and we were there for the signing. I think it will be great for the cemetery to upgrade, maintain, and make any changes that we need to."

CFPD Chair Paul Davidson says it's a good thing for the cemetery.

"The upkeep of a cemetery is a tremendous burden on a community alone. The grass cutting in the Oakville Cemetery is about $8,000 a year, so this will go a long way in helping to continue with the upkeep and maintenance of a very important heritage site."

Wojtowicz is looking forward to the future with the new fund.

The fund was established with a $5000 donation from Sandra and Dave Falk, in memory of Sandra's grandparents, William and Emily Butler. The Falks hope others will contribute to the Oakville Cemetary Fund as well. Contact the Community Foundation of Portage and District for information.
