The Oddfellows Fund administered by the Community Foundation of Portage and District became $1000.00 richer a little over a week ago, through a couple of contributions.

Robert Wheeler presented a cheque for $500.00 on behalf of his father Jack, who passed away last year. The younger Wheeler explains how the donation came about.

"In his will, he left $500.00 to the Portage Oddfellows Lodge," he says, "And they have graciously matched that, and donated another $500.00 for the $1000.00 donation today, to the Foundation."

Oddfellows and Rebekahs Lodge of Portage Financial Secretary Terry Simpson explains the contribution comes from their weekly bingo.

"We have it on Saturdays of every month," he says, "So, to do with the Lotteries Commission, we can only have a (set) accumulated amount of money that we can keep in our bank account. The rest of it has to be donated, so we donate it out to organizations. This is how we run our business, and we have good times."
