The folks at the Oddfellows Rebekah Lodge in Portage la Prairie made one final donation this week.

They presented $1,000 to Central Plains Cancer Services Friday through the Oddfellows Bingo.

"This was the last one of the five donations we've made over the last two weeks," says chairman of Oddfellows Bingo Terry Simpson. "It's going to an excellent cause in Central Plains Cancer Services. It's very important to support this group because they do a lot here in Portage. There's people always requiring them every day and we feel that they need the $1000 to keep them motivated, keep them going, and help with their bank account."

Sharilyn Knox, Executive Director Central Plains Cancer Services, says the donation means a lot to their organization.

"We really appreciate when local groups support us. It just gives us confidence that they believe in what we're doing, and this money is going to go a long way, especially when I look at our Transportation Program where last year we provide 1013 rides to patients with an average cost of $100 per ride for us, so there's 10 rides for patients this year. We're very thankful to the Oddfellows Bingo."

She adds they don't get any government funding for what they do.

"Everything we get is by donation, memoriams, or fundraising. So we just have to keep hoping that organizations like this will continue to support us."
