The 12th annual Western Canadian Pond Hockey Championship's coming to Portage la Prairie's Island Park in just over two weeks.

Travis Foster's with the organizing committee, as well as being a player.

"The last I counted, I think we were at seven or eight teams, so being two weeks away, I think that's pretty good," he says. adding "Teams are still trickling in. The rinks are made, it looks like we're getting some colder weather, which going to help us out a little bit. Things are coming together"

Foster calls the event's contribution to the community huge, over the years.

"Rotary is our volunteer base, and the beneficiary of the event. The last few years, we've been right around the $10,000 profit mark,"  and he stresses, "which, of course, goes right back into the community, and helping Rotary achieve the things that they do, such as the parks, and donations such as Stride Place and the BDO Centre."

They'll have competitive and non-competitive divisions for adults and youth 12 to 18.
