A new packer truck has made curbside recycling in the city and RM of Portage much more efficient. That's according to Executive Director James Bolton from Portage and District Recycling, who says since acquiring the truck last September they don't do any more sorting on the curb. Bolton notes they collect everything and throw it all into the packer truck, then bring it to the plant and run it through the sort line there.

He says the main reason they switched to this vehicle is all about efficiencies, adding they can accommodate many more items now and just empty the truck once a day rather than having to empty their truck and trailer a couple of times each day. Bolton notes currently the packer truck operates in the city and the RM of Portage, while they still use the truck and trailer for other collection areas such as Holland, Elm Creek, and St. Claude.
