The Learn 2 Skate Hockey program has expanded this year to accommodate another 20 kids.

Recreation Opportunities for Kids supervisor Lynne Parker says it's great to be able to accommodate another 20 kids, noting how wonderful last year's program was.

"It was fabulous last year. The growth we'd seen in the kids from the first day they stepped on the ice to the end of the program, the growth in their self-esteem. And the camaraderie between the kids, setting up little challenges from each other on the ice. And our last session we had the RCMP and some of the officers from DOPS and a couple firefights came out to play against the kids, and some of the local Terriers. The kids absolutely love it."

Parker explains where the equipment for the program comes from.

" We are taking donations. A lot of our equipment came from Manitoba Aboriginal Sport and Rec they kind of run the equipment department of Kids Sport, so they bring us out a lot of used equipment. Last year some equipment from the Aaron Asham Chance 2 Play plus we also got some through Canadian Tire Jumpstart."

The Learn 2 Skate hockey program starts in October.
