Partial removal of Geotextile Tubes at Delta Beach is about complete. The protection system was installed during flooding and has been a concern for some residents of Delta Beach for some time. Reeve Kam Blight says the RM of Portage la Prairie hired the company that installed the tubes to resolve the problem of stagnant ponds of water behind them.

"Strategic cuts have taken place. They should be moving out of the area soon. There was a preliminary number provided to us saying that they would do up to X number of cuts per side. They have not gone up to those numbers. Now they're actually out there and assessing it. They're seeing how it's actually going to work, and what areas work the best. So we left that up to the discretion of the company doing the work."

Blight notes RCMP also caught vandals damaging the protection.

"There is a stretch that is being removed right now that was damaged by vandalism a couple of weekends ago. So, that is one other area that they're removing that they were originally weren't planning on removing. To my knowledge one of the RCMP members called me the day afterwards saying they had certain individuals in custody they picked up on site vandalizing and damaging this property. So, I think that's excellent and a great job with the RCMP responding and apprehending these individuals. It's very unfortunate. That's a very costly piece of protection that was in place there. It's unfortunate that things like this have to happen, but we're very grateful that the RCMP responded in a quick manner and addressed the issue."
