Portage Collegiate held its annual Breakfast for Breakfast fundraiser this morning in Portage la Prairie, and had a great turnout.

Lasha MackedenskiSocial Justice Group member Lasha Mackedenski says she got involved as a way of making friends at the school, seeing as it's her first year at PCI, adding it's for a good cause.

"Today I was serving pancakes. Yesterday I was decorating. Before that, I was contacting groups for sponsors. So, I've done a bit of everything. We have Portage Co-op supplying the fruit. Prairie Abattoir with the sausages. Agrium gave us a donation. Simplot supplied the hashbrowns."

Social justice group teacher supervisor Jennifer Walle explains they're raising funds and collecting food donations for the Portage School Division breakfast program.

Travis EilersTravis Eilers also helped out as a social justice member, and took tickets from those who purchased the breakfast as well as served food. Tickets were $6.00 at the door and $5.00 if you purchased in advance. He notes it was an option for students for the S.O.S. (Sources Of Strength) peers group. Eilers notes it wasn't only students, but people outside the school came to support the effort and enjoy a healthy breakfast.

The money raised goes toward funding elementary school breakfast programs through the Portage School Division as well as providing food for those breakfasts.
