A Portage Collegiate graduate who was part of the school's internship program has returned from a week at the RCMP Training Depot in Regina.

Samuel Doyle says the experience strengthened his intention to make law enforcement a career. While there, he participated in training classes, drill and fitness classes, defence tactics, driving, and simulated firearms practice.

However, Doyle says what stands out as the most important is how he was treated.

"As if I was a regular cadet, as if I was staying there the full six months. They didn't care we were youth camp or anything, we got treated just as equal as everybody else. The drill sergeant yelled at us just like everybody else. We woke up the same time, we ate breakfast, ate lunch, ate supper when everybody else would. The experience of being like I was actually there, that was lots of fun."

Doyle also received some advice on when to join, from cadets about to graduate.

"They all agreed on one thing -- it was a rough six months, but they said it was a fun six months. They also agreed it's fun to apply when you're young, but they all agreed that you need to go live a life before you come here, because once you come here, then your career's started."

Doyle also recommends PCI students get involved with the internship program.
