The chemotherapy chairs at the Portage and District Hospital will be getting replaced soon.

The Portage District General Hospital Foundation (PDGHF) held their Quiz Night last month and executive director Erin Miller says it helped them raise enough for basically the cost two new chairs.

One of the chemotherapy chairs the Foundation has been looking at.

"We ended up having 26 teams come out, so with their entry fees and a couple of trivia-bunker type games through intermission, the total raised was $2,340. There was another opportunity that night to bid on the very last category and there was a live auction. MNP bid $2,500 because they knew that was how much one of the chemotherapy chairs cost. It was really generous of them and we're looking at almost $5,000 that night, not to mention we've gotten numerous donations since from people that were there and saw a lot of value in what we are doing."

Miller feels the community recognizes the importance of what the Foundation does for the hospital.

"The community continues to support the hospital foundation. We are working really hard to make things better for the people that live in our community whether by comfort, adding valuable programs to the Portage area. I think we all know somebody that has had to go to our chemotherapy area and sit in the chairs, and they're in dire straights of being replaced. So it's awesome, I think it's a good opportunity for people to honour somebody that has had to sit in one of those chairs, and we've had a couple of donations in that way as well."

She adds the Portage hospital is trialling different types of chairs right now, and as soon as they decide which one is right they'll order them.
