The Portage and District Recycling depot went through a tough period after a fire last year. Executive director James Bolton says they made it through, though.

"We were back to normal toward the end of March after, right from the get-go, they'd indicated that we probably be down for about six months," says executive director James Bolton. "And we were pretty much down for six months almost to the day. Unfortunately, we were forced to lay off eight people because of the fire. I'm happy to say that everybody came back."

He notes those with the depot during the fire and after had to change how they unloaded and did things every one or two weeks. From week-in to week-out it was all a makeshift effort. Bolton adds he's proud of the employees who were so adaptable.
