The Portage Day Care Centre's excited about the $3,000 boost they received from the Portage Plains United Way.

Executive Director Lisa Voth says the funds will go into their General Building Fund. She says the PPUW's been a big help for years.

"United Way has supported us through our last project, and again through this project, so we're very grateful to them as an organization. I know they get a lot of funding from communities, so thank-you to the community as well for providing them the funds to help us out."

She adds it's nice to know the community appreciates their service.

"I think it's a really nice thing to see that communities in general are realizing that day cares are a necessity for economic development. We're always full, and we have waiting lists upon waiting lists. So any kind of growth in that area is, I think, essential to any community. I'm very proud to see that our own Portage la Prairie is behind us."

She's excited for the opening of the new centre as well.
