With Bike Week ending recently, and the weather staying warm, most if us are out on our bicycles. But where do you ride safely?

Currently Portage la Prairie has no bike lanes. That's something Portage Active Transportation Committee Member Ian Wassink wants to see changed.

"There are no bike lanes in the city of Portage la Prairie right now," says Wassink. "What we'd like to see is increased and better active transportation infrastructure. One thing we're working on with the city is to have more bike racks installed."

Wassink says the next step for the city would be to see where we could install some bike lanes.

"Even if we want to do some test or temporary bike lanes on some streets for people to get used to the idea, that would be great," Wassink says. "We don't even have to have bike lanes that are permanent all year. We could have pop-up bike lanes for the summer months."

Wassink adds it would be nice to see bike lanes along major routes like Saskatchewan Avenue.
