The Portage la Prairie Rotary and Lions Clubs have partnered to help start the Bike Week festivities in Portage la Prairie this year.

"We were approached by the active transportation group to see if we would be interested in taking over the kickoff day for Bike Week that's happening in June," says Rotary Club member Guy Moffat. "It has been done by the Portage Community Revitalization Corporation and the Portage Regional Library the past couple of years, and both of those organizations have gotten booked up with things so it was up for grabs."

Moffat says they've also been talking to other organizations like Big Brothers Big Sisters, the Girl Guides, and Recreation Opportunities for Kids. He feels with several interesting organizations at the table, they should be able to come up with some neat and fun things to do.

"The kickoff day is also happens to be Central Plains Cancer Care's Challenge Walk," adds Moffat. "So it's their day as well, and I think we're going to be having a barbecue to help fundraise for that event. As far as I know we've never had this many organizations do something together, so that's really exciting to see that partnership come around."

The clubs are in the planning stages right now and anyone with input is welcome to help out. You can get in touch with Krista Graham or email Guy Moffat through the Portage Rotary Club.
