Despite COVID-19 and the slow-down of the economy during its pandemic, Portage's regional economy is moving forward.

Portage Regional Economic Development executive director Eve O'Leary shares some recent news.

"We have formed a tourism committee for Portage la Prairie and region," says O'Leary. "So, we're focusing on how we can promote Portage la Prairie as a destination and really promote our own backyard here in Manitoba."

She notes they focused their efforts on identifying some different areas, and are making a feature video every couple of weeks of different areas of Portage la Prairie to visit.

"It's really to take the Island on the Prairie brand and take it to the next level," adds O'Leary. "So, really identifying a formal framework for tourism, ensuring tourism is a sustainable economic driver here in Portage la Prairie, and really promote its assets. Things are still moving ahead, and we're just recommending people social distance and listen to the public advisories from the province."
