The Portage Wildlife Club held its second annual general meeting last night in Portage la Prairie. President Rod Gladue says they had a great 2016.

"We had a very successful banquet last fall -- our first banquet," says president Rod Gladue. "And we sold out. It was just an amazing event. We made a fair bit of money. Also, we did a fair donation to STARS (air ambulance), and a few other things like that."

Gladue adds after having been in operation for two years, he's pleased the community's really stepped up to welcome them. Their membership's up to about 130 now. He notes future plans include the possibility of putting a new dock in at Lake Manitoba, but he notes plenty of communication with residents in the area will be accomplished first.

They're planning another banquet for this fall, a rim-fire shoot coming up in a month, and Father's day weekend has a sporting clay shoot as well. He says regular activities include running the lodge and having folks come out and shoot at their range. Gladue says the Delta Marsh area has beautiful scenery for you to enjoy while at the Lodge. You can park a camper there, have a bonfire with plenty to enjoy throughout the year.

He explains the first major effort for their first year of activity involved getting their Lodge up to quality for use, with targets in need of rebuilding, and replacing windows.
